چکیده

For a positive coagulase test with certain isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, inoculation of 0.5 ml of coagulase plasma with at least two colonies and 24 h of incubation at 35 to 37 degrees C may be required. S. aureus does not multiply in coagulase plasma. There is also lot-to-lot variation in the sensitivity of coagulase plasma. On isolates from critical specimens, a negative coagulase test obtained with an inoculum of less than two colonies should be confirmed by repeating the procedure with a larger inoculum or by using some other confirmatory test.

Modeling the growth of Staphylococcus aureus as affected by black zira (Bunium persicum) essential oil, temperature, pH and inoculum levels

Black zira (Bunium persicum) is a medicinal plant and spice, naturally grows in Iran. The aim of this study was to investigate the combined effects of different concentrations of Bunium persicum essential oil (EO; including 0, 0.08, 0.16 and 0.24%), three incubation temperatures (15, 25 and 35˚C), three levels of pH (5, 6 and 7 adjusted by hydrochloric acid), and three inoculu...

Growth limits of Staphylococcus aureus as a function of temperature, acetic acid, NaCl concentration, and inoculum level

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most prevalent causes of gastroenteritis worldwide. Knowing the precise boundary for the growth/no growth interface of S. aureus and also determining the period of time needed for bacterial growth initiation is necessary for food safety risk assessment. This study was designed to examine the combined effects of temperature, acetic acid, inoculum level and NaC...

Effects of Sub-Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations of Silver Nanoparticles on Some Virulence Factors of Staphylococcus aureus

ABSTRACT          Background and Objectives: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have physical and surface properties that could threaten human and environmental health. AgNPs are classified as ‘very toxic’ to eukaryotic organisms and are less toxic to bacteria. The aim of the present study was to study the effects of different sub-minimum inhi...

Evaluation of different tests for detection of Staphylococcus aureus using coagulase (coa) gene PCR as the gold standard.

A total of 288 staphylococcal specimens isolated from different clinical specimens were selected for the evaluation of tests used to detect Staphylococcus aureus. The coagulase (coa) gene PCR was preformed, which confirmed 288 specimens as S. aureus and 51 specimens as coagulase negative staphylococci (CONS). All the specimens were subjected to slide coagulase test, Slidex Staph plus test and t...
